In many games, the performance is the key and the performance comes from the player reacting as fast as possible to the situation that is happening in the game.
The reaction time isn't just players reaction, unfortunately all the latency in the system is part of this reaction time, and if the part's don't work together perfectly It will end up increasing this reaction time.
The hardware and the gaming monitor is extremely crucial for the gaming setup, however, It is very important to work these parts to be work in sync so that they know each others capabilities and work in harmony to provide the lowest latency as possible.
That is where the G-Sync technology from NVdia comes in to the play, It basically let's GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and the gaming monitor work in sync, hence the name G-Sync.
During a game, graphical card of your computer or the laptop works by sending frames to the monitor to display them. The frequency of these frames are what is called the refresh rate.
If your graphics card is powerful, It can send more frames per second to the monitor. And If your monitor is powerful or newer, It can display more frames per second.
These are all great things, however this is exactly where the problem starts. Most of the time, these two parts of the system, gaming monitor and the graphics card, will have different refresh rates.
When the refresh rates of the monitor and frame per second of the graphics card don't match visible issues such as tearing and stuttering. To solve this problem, Nvdia introduce G-Sync which adjusts the refresh rate so that gpu and the display match.
Like everything else in the technology space, there is no single and simple standard. G-Sync is also one of those specs with different versions.
There are three levels of G-Sync support and the first G-Sync supported monitors were introduced 2018.
G-Sync Compatible monitors don't use NVIDIA made processors, but supports basics of G-sync variable refresh rate technology.
On the other hand, G-Sync Ultimate monitors come with the latest NVIDIA graphics processors which support HDR and 1000-nits brightness, in addition to the variable refresh rate VRR technology.
